Participants in Project Lifesaver wear a one-ounce battery-operated
radio wrist transmitter that emits a tracking signal every second,
24 hours a day. The signal can be tracked on the ground or in
the air over several miles. Each wristband has a unique radio
frequency, so that the Project Lifesaver team can positively locate
and identify a person who has wandered away from home using a
specially designed radio receiver. With Project Lifesaver search
times have been reduced from hours and days to just minutes. This
program has had a 100 percent success rate nationally. More information
about Project lifesaver is available at www.projectlifesaver.org.
Project Lifesaver is helping insure the safety of many people
with autism, Alzheimer's, and other disabilities which cause them
to wander away and become lost. If you live in Kalamazoo County
and would like more information about participating in Project
Lifesaver, e-mail Beverly Bishop, or call 800-628-6421.
