Barry County Youth Raise Funds for the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Autism Society
Barry County Courts, Youth Services Bureau started a fundraising initiative this year through a group called Barry County Youth Awareness. Sixteen area youth ranging in age from 13 to 18 voted to have autism as their fundraising cause. Together with staff they planned and held an autism awareness walk that took place at Tyden Park in Hastings on July 16, 2011.
The autism walk was a success bringing in just over $1,300 dollars. Last week two of the teens: Brad Smith and Nevin Horn, together with Whitney Munson, an intern, came to our office to donate the walk proceeds to our organization (pictured left). It was a pleasure meeting with them. Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to the teens that chose autism as their cause. Their donation will go toward providing support services to autism families in our surrounding area.
